SANDPIPER GALLERY Mary Houk, proprietor of the Sandpiper Gallery, knows first hand the devastating effects Alzheimer’s disease has on a family. For many years she and her husband Jerry were the primary caregivers for Jerry’s mother, Emma Boyer. By all accounts Emma was an exceptional lady. She was the first lady torpedo inspector for the Navy during WWII after which she went on to became a member of the Apollo Lunar Team. Sadly later in life Emma was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. To honor Emma’s life, Mary & Jerry will once again be hosting this annual Wellfleet event. Enjoy refreshments and entertainment by The Big Jazz while you browse and bid on auction items donated by local artists and artisans. This event has become a wonderful Wellfleet happening so be sure to come. Suggested donation $ 10 per person. Don’t forget to purchase your raffle tickets for some wonderful raffle prizes. The Live auction will feature works from many local artists as well as a week at Marco Island in January 2010. Join Honorary Chairs, Selina Trieff and Robert Hardy on Sunday, August 9, 2009 at the Sweet Seasons Restaurant on 70 Main Street in Wellfleet from 3 to 7pm to benefit Alzheimer’s Services of Cape Cod & the Islands, Inc. All proceeds from the evening will be donated to this local, non-profit organization.
